Baking is in my genes. Early on my grandma instilled in me a love for baking. Her kitchen was always filled with delightful aromas. It was evidence that some new masterpiece, made with love, would soon be offered up. My grandma taught me that the combination of flour, sugar, and butter can create some wondrously delectable treats. She showed me that baking is an art form. It is a way to unwind after a busy day. It is therapeutic. But most importantly, from Grandma I learned that baking is an opportunity to share love and comfort. Many a rough day was softened by sharing with Grandma a glass of milk, a plate of cookies, and a good heart-to-heart.
Grandma’s home and her heart were always open, welcoming family and friends. She always set a big table, with room enough for everyone. My memories are filled with so much laughter and smiles (and did I mention AMAZING food?) around that big table.
Rockbridge County, Virginia is now the place where my family calls home. We moved here in 2016 when my husband and I were called to serve as co-pastors of a church. We share a job which means we both work part-time (ask me about it sometime when we meet), and I cherish my work. I am Momma to five amazing kiddos, who never cease to make me laugh and give me joy (and the occasional sleepless night). Raising these little humans is a job that I truly treasure and am grateful for. And just like Grandma, we have our own big table, with plenty of room to gather around, feast on good food, and laugh until our sides hurt.
Big Table Bake Shop is my opportunity to share my love of baking and the joy of having a yummy treat with someone you love. I hope you’re able to have the same joy in tasting these treats that I have in making them.
